Otero College is now the host of its very own Electric Vehicle charging stations! For anyone with a vehicle that can be plugged in – Battery Electric or Plug-In Hybrid – Otero College will be able to provide a location for those seeking to charge up their vehicle in the town of La Junta.

On August 4th, 2021, Otero College was awarded the Charge Ahead Colorado grant to help fund the installation of two dual-port, Level 2 ChargePoint charging stations (CT-4000) on campus. The site selected for these charging stations is the parking lot directly attached to the rear of the McDivitt Center gym – 55 Piñon St (see PlugShare map below).

These charging stations are open to all faculty, staff, and students, as well to the general public. Information on these charging stations is available on all major charging apps, including the National Alternative Fuel DatabasePlugShareChargePointABetterRoutePlannerChargeWay, etc.

The charging stations are managed by ChargePoint, the world’s largest EV charging network, with over 174,000 charging points operating in 14 countries.

To use a charging station, drivers download the ChargePoint mobile app and sign up for a free ChargePoint account. Full details on how to access EV charging stations through ChargePoint can be found at the ChargePoint website.

Otero Charging Etiquette

  • Charging is on a first-come, first-serve basis. We cannot guarantee that a charging station will be available for use at any specific time. Please use the ChargePoint app to verify that a charging port is available.
  • Don’t charge if you don’t need to.  Leave the spot free for another EV driver that might really need the charge.
  • Only occupy an EV charging spot while your car is being charged.  When the charging session is completed, unplug and move your car to free up the spot for another EV driver.
  • When completed, please place the charger back into the corresponding slot on the base.
