Otero Softball Names Skye Koehl Head Coach
Skye Koehl will begin her duties as Head Softball Coach on June 1. Formerly the assistant softball coach, Coach Koehl brings several years of coaching and playing experience to the team.
Originally from Columbus, Texas, Koehl graduated from Columbus High School. She then spent three years at Temple College, where she played softball and was named to the first team all-conference as a utility player. She not only excelled on the field, but off the field as well, earning several academic honors. She then transitioned to Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi for three years where she continued to play softball and receive academic accolades.
Coach Koehl then went on to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor where she was a volunteer assistant. While she was there, as an outfield coach, the team recorded the highest fielding percentage in school history. She also interned for the Scrap Yard Dawgs in Houston, Texas, helping with strength and conditioning as well as shadowing the pro team. She also coached two years for the South Texas Prospects out of Corpus Christi and spent one year at the Central Texas Buzz organization.
In her spare time, Coach Koehl enjoys working on her own strengthening and conditioning, hiking, basketball, fishing, and water sports. She shared that she likes the cohesive, family environment at Otero and the small-town community. Her goals are to win the conference this season and eventually nationals. Her priority is to make sure the team has a GPA of 3.15 or higher. She also strives to help students move on to the next level of their education by transferring to four-year colleges.
The Otero Athletics program is excited to welcome Coach Koehl as the head coach. Internally, she was awarded the assistant coach of the year for this past season and is highly regarded by her fellow coaches.
