Medical Laboratory Technician Pinning to be Held on Dec. 12, 2022.

Otero College is set to graduate its 8th class of Medical Laboratory Technicians on Dec. 12, 2022, at 5 p.m. in the Rizzuto Banquet Room in the Student Center on the Otero College campus.

The MLT program is designed for students to graduate with an Associate of Applied Science degree in five semesters. Three semesters are spent at the Otero campus and two semesters are partially spent in clinical rotations at an affiliated clinical facility. Otero’s MLT program began in 2013 and has graduated 27 Medical Laboratory Technicians.

Medical Laboratory Technicians provide the testing on blood and body fluids which contribute to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. They perform testing in areas of Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, and Microbiology. In addition, MLTs provide data analysis to ensure accurate and reliable laboratory results. They are considered the invisible face of healthcare due to their behind-the-scenes contributions.

Students who graduate from the MLT program at Otero can go on to achieve a bachelor’s degree and their Medical Laboratory Science certification.

Students are currently enrolling in the MLT program for spring of 2023. For questions regarding the MLT program, contact Angela Tarrant at (719) 384-6813 or otero-mlt@otero.edu.
