NUA Nursing Assistant

NUA 1001 / NUA 101: Nurse Aide Health Care Skills - 4 Credits 
Prepares the student to perform the fundamental skills of the nurse aide. Basic nursing skills, communication skills, restorative services, personal care skills, safety and emergency care issues are covered. Includes knowledge and/or principles of asepsis, OSHA and HIPAA regulations. Ethical behaviors, cultural sensitivity and principles of mental health will be addressed, as well as patient/resident rights.

NUA 1070 / NUA 170: Nurse Aide Clinical Experience  – 1.5 Credit 
Applies knowledge and skill gained in NUA 1001 / NUA 101 to patient care.

NUA 1074 / NUA 174: Acute Care Nurse Aide Skills-1 Credit
Explores the role of the acute care nurse aide in communication, safety issues and advanced nurse aide skills. Knowledge will be gained regarding patient findings to report to the nurse and will be proficient in performance of advanced acute care nurse aide skills. Caring for patients going to surgery or for special procedures will be discussed and patient rights in the acute care setting will be explored.
(Contact hours – 45 Lecture 12, Lab 9, Clinical 24 / 3 weeks of lecture and lab before 24 hours of clinical time)
Prerequisite(s): NUA 1001 and NUA 1070 or current Certification/Licensure in the State of Colorado and Current BLS
