About the Program

As an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) you are generally one of the first to arrive at the scene of accidents or other medical emergencies. It requires cool headedness in emergency situations, so that you can administer first aid treatment or life support care while transporting patients to medical facilities. An EMT’s work can truly make the difference between life and death and can be a rewarding career for those willing to take on the challenge.

At Otero College, EMS students are able to practice their hands-on skills in a state-of-the-art ambulance simulator. This program prepares the graduate to perform pre-hospital care including assessments, skills and transportation for clients suffering from traumatic injury or other medical emergencies. Both the Basic EMT and Advanced EMT levels are offered as certificates.
